NGO-GCN In Awareness Campaigns
From August 20th To 24th, The NGO-GCN Embarked On A Massive Awareness Campaigns To Sensitise The Public Of Various Gender Related Laws (GRLs) That Are Available In Malawi. The Exercise Took Place In Selected Communities Across 10 Districts Of Malawi Namely Nkhotakota, Nkhatabay, Mzimba, Kasungu, Mchinji, Salima, Mangochi, Chiradzulu, Thyolo And Mulanje And Was Aimed At Promoting The Personal Awareness And Agency Of The General Public With A Special Focus On Adolescents And Adults With Visual Impairment In Demanding For Gender Justice. According To The Network's Knowledge Management And Systems Officer, The Need For The Campaigns Was A Result Of Discovering That There Have Been A Lot Of Efforts By Stakeholders In Ensuring That Various Legal Frameworks Are In Place To Protect Survivors Of GBV. Despite This However, She Explained That There Was A Noted Gap In Agency Among The Communities Which Was Discovered To Be Stemming From A Lack Of Awareness Of The Same. Speaking After The Session, One Of The Attendants Of The Campaigns Indicated That The Campaigns Were An Eye Opener As People Were Just Aware That There Are Laws That Exist But Were Not Aware Of The Penalties Or Even The Contents Of Them Let Alone The Fact That There Were Quite A Good Number Of Them Protecting People Against Various Injustices. The Campaigns Were One Of The Activities Being Carried Out As Part Of The Two Year Project Supported By The Royal Norwegian Embassy.
